Where I’m Eating: Taro Smoothie

There’s no Sugar Coating Where to Find Good Smoothies

One thing I take pride in is supporting local small businesses. I enjoy traveling from here to there, really anywhere my vacation time will take me, but I am local to the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (the DMV).

The newest addition to the DMV is Taro Smoothie. Owner Jonas Vasquez serves up smoothies with great health benefits, and NO ADDED SUGAR. Jonas is a veteran who was raised in Annapolis, MD. With Argentinian parents, Jonas grew up with his mom making smoothies regularly. When Jonas was injured, he found that those same smoothies were instrumental in his healing process, nurturing him back to health. Out of this experience grew Taro Smoothies.

Jonas spent months discovering new natural ingredients and perfecting his recipes. One of his chosen ingredients is taro. Taro is a root vegetable, native to Hawaii. The root has great health benefits, providing a good source of fiber, as well as high levels of vitamin A, C, E, and B6. Taro Smoothies serves organic taro with all the nutrients (unlike some artificial versions). Taro smoothies are made with fresh fruits and vegetables. For optimum consistency, Jonas selects all of the ingredients himself. Only the freshest, in season, produce are selected for the smoothies.

Each of Taro’s smoothies have a variety of health benefits. Whether it is a morning smoothie, anti-inflammatory, skin soother, or a hangover cure, each smoothie is special. Smoothies #1 and #2 on the menu are anti-inflammatory and helped Jonas heal from his injuries. You can add taro, protein, acai, chia seeds, or peanut butter powder to any smoothie. Taro Smoothies online is a nice resource for all the ingredients in each smoothie and the health benefits.

Taro Smoothies isn’t just smoothies. They also offer the infamous Acai Bowls, only in cups, so they travel much better. These cups are loaded with antioxidants, this super fruit is blended with banana, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, and topped with granola, more bananas, more strawberries, more blueberries, chia seeds, and coconut. Add a little peanut butter or Nutella to your acai cup for an extra creamy treat. If you’re looking for a hot option, try the Green tea, with fresh mint, lemon or honey. My personal favorite hot drink is the apple cider. A fresh slice of apple, turmeric and ginger, are the perfect combination, especially on a cold day.

With the Naval base nearby, of course Taro offers military discounts. Outside of just the tasty, healthy offerings, all cups and spoons are biodegradable. Jonas also supports local artists by displaying artworks for sale in his store. Though Taro Smoothie has only been around a few months, the building incurred a little war wound. Unfortunately, a brick was thrown through the window one evening (obviously someone was having too much fun partying). Luckily a local artist graced the window of Taro Smoothies with a temporary replacement.

Guess what, because of that overzealous party goer, we now have a new smoothie, “The Brick”. The Brick is a detox smoothie full of cranberries, blueberries, bananas, and oranges.

If you live in the Annapolis area, or are just visiting their beautiful sites and shores, stop in Taro Smoothie for a specialty smoothie or acai cup.

With almost everything which appears to be building within this particular area, a significant percentage of perspectives are somewhat exciting. Nevertheless, I am sorry, but I can not give credence to your entire theory, all be it refreshing none the less. It looks to everyone that your opinions are not entirely justified and in fact you are your self not really thoroughly certain of the point. In any case I did take pleasure in looking at it.
