Kuzina Galeria

A Traditional Greek Restaurant

The Kuzina Galerie is a family run restaurant in Chania on the island of Crete, Greece. The restaurant is within walking distance of several hotels and a beach. It is a convenient place to stop for lunch or dinner.

During our stay in Chania we visited the Kuzina on two occasions. The restaurant offers seafood and meat dishes, including international and Greek specialties.

There is a full bar which offers wine and spirits.

 

The Kuzina offers a wide variety of appetizers. We went with the fried cheese, calamari, and the Greek salad. The fried cheese is incrusted with sesame seeds. The combination of the coating and the sesame seeds gave a unique flavor and crunch.

The calamari tasted fresh and crispy. The rings were also pretty large, larger than I have seen in many other restaurants outside of Greece.

Our first Greek salad while in Greece was at Kuzina. We were surprised to find large squares of feta on top. The salad also comes with green peppers, onions, tomatoes, toast points, cucumber and olives, with a light olive oil dressing. During our visit in Greece we found the salads to be delicious! All of the vegetables taste so fresh. I am not a fan of tomatoes but I enjoyed the Greek tomatoes.

The Kuzina has daily specials. For our entrees we tried the Pepper Steak and the Lamb Kleftiko. The steak is very tender with a brown sauce. The dish is served with corn, potatoes, and a small salad of cucumber, tomato, and green peppers. The potatoes were delicious and a good pairing with the steak.

Lamb Kleftiko is a traditional Greek dish. It is definitely a comfort food. A mixture of lamb, vegetables, and cheese is cooked in parchment paper and unveiled in front of you at the table. This delicious dish had hints of dill which was refreshing.

We like to take our dessert to go, which limited our options. We were able to take away apple pie or baklava. We tried one of each. Be aware that the apple pie is more of a bread than a traditional pie in the American sense. The baklava was very tasty and unlike any we’ve had, just sweet enough and crispy with a light syrup.

If you are not used to European service, be sure to ask for the check when you are ready. When the check is served you may be offered complimentary raki (a Cretan liquor) and a sweet treat, like raisins or cherries.

 

Our experience at Kuzina Galerie was enjoyable. The food was great and the people were even better. We spoke with the owner who provided deep insight into the Greek specialties, and one of the owner’s sons who suggested local beaches for us to visit.
